Ask a Specific QuestionHow long does a typical refugee hearing take?+
Most hearings last between 3 and 4 hours; complex cases involving multiple family members may take longer. We prepare you for every step so nothing at the hearing is a surprise.
Can I represent myself at the IRB?+
You have the right to represent yourself. The IRB process is technical and being represented can help make sure the record and submissions are complete, but no representative can promise or guarantee a specific outcome.
What happens if my claim is refused?+
Depending on the case, you may have a right to appeal to the Refugee Appeal Division (RAD) or to seek Judicial Review at the Federal Court of Canada. RAD appeals fall within paralegal scope; Federal Court proceedings must be handled by a lawyer, and we will refer you to an authorized lawyer for that step.
